Pride of Hong Kong
Thursday December 14th, 2023 General
Golden Sixty won the Hong Kong Mile for the third time. Local newspapers highlighted him as the “Pride of HK,” and jockey Ho praised the horse, saying, “He’s like a monster. When I asked for the effort, he showed an unbelievable turn of foot” Golden Sixty, sired by Medaglia d’Oro, was purchased for A$120,000 at the 2017 Magic Million Sale. With this victory, his total prize money increased to HKD 165,856,000 (approx A$32 million), making him the world’s top-earning horse. Discovering such horses in auction at relatively lower end prices is a motivation for the effort in searching a next star.
Joe Fujii to visit Australia
Wednesday November 29th, 2023 General
JRA jockey Joe Fujii visited the Japanoz stable. Previously, when I returned to Japan, Joe guided me through the Ritto Training Center and various farms. This time, I had the opportunity to offer support during his visit. After watching races together in Sydney, we flew to Ballina. Initially, the plan was to attend the local race meeting, but unfortunately it was canceled due to rain. Despite this, we toured the stable, interacted with the staff and horses, and visited some of Joe’s old friends. Additionally, we had dinner with my team members from the stable—jockeys Nori Masuda, Billy Shimodaira and Nozi Tomizawa. We discussed a lot about Japanese and Australian …
Master of the river
Tuesday November 14th, 2023 General
Let me introduce Steven Phelps, who is helping with horse swimming at my stable. He has had a successful career as a trainer and even had a horse named Maltese Beauty participated in the G1 race. Steven is now retired and spends his time leisurely with three former racehorses he used to train and a Labrador. Even in unfavorable weather conditions, such as rain and strong winds, Steven skillfully rows the boat and he is the master of the river right next to the racecourse. Having an experienced individual like Steven assisting us is very reassuring, and there is also so much to learn from him.

Saturday October 28th, 2023 General
Hayden’s Request put an impressive performance by winning his debut race. Congratulations to all the co-owners! Jockey Masuda commented, “Hayden’s Choice was a bit tired on the final uphil, but it persevered well until the end. After the finish line, he was breathing heavily, so I believe this race will help improve his fitness for his next run.” The plan is to prepare the horse for races from 1000 meters to 1100 meters, with a long-term goal of extending the distance.
Better Times heads to Breeding Barn
Thursday October 26th, 2023 General
Better Times(Betty) ran the last race at Lismore Racecourse. Looking back on her history, it was a truly unfortunate that she suffered the injury before attempting a G3 race as a 3yo. Although she eventually recovered from the injury, it seemed as if she might have been self-conscious about pushing herself too hard, fearing the pain from her previous injury. This led to some disappointing performances.Moving forward, as she demonstrated in her metropolitan win during her three-year-old season, she possesses the ability to produce excellent offsprings. It would be a great pleasure if, someday, I could train one of Betty’s foals in my stable.Once again, I want to express my …
The Japan’s Star jockey to ride at Rosehill
Thursday October 26th, 2023 General
It has been widely reported in the media that jockey Yutaka Take will be participating The Golden Eagle in Rosehill Gardens aboard Obamburumai Mai. When I heard the news of my personal star from the young age visiting to Australia, I was truly delighted. While Yutaka Take’s previous rides in Australia date back to 1995, he has commented that Australia consistently produces strong horses, resulting in exciting horse racing. He has expressed a strong desire to ride in the Melbourne Cup, and many of us in the Australian horse industry, including myself, are eager to support him. In our stable as well, we are considering how we might arrange an …
Brave effort for Mel in the Equimillion
Sunday October 8th, 2023 General
Mel O’Keefe, a member of our stable, finished in 5th place in the Equimillion. This event garnered a lot of attention from horse racing enthusiasts because it featured former racehorses that had achieved G1 victories. Mel participated with a former racehorse named Blockaded. Despite the fierce competition in this high-stakes competition, we are delighted that Mel gave it a good shot and got a great result. “I am very happy to have had the opportunity to challenge Equimillion with my horse Blockaded. I am grateful to Japanoz Stable, James & Son, and Mifeed for sponsoring me, and it has been a source of motivation for me,” Mel said. They even …
Upcoming 2 years olds
Friday September 29th, 2023 General
I will now share the training process leading up to the debut of our 2yos. First, the yearlings complete their initial training at the breaking in farm and then go for a pasture turnout before entering our stable. In the stable, they undergo schooling on the track, light trackwork, barrier practice, and swimming. Afterward, they are turned out again to encourage growth, and the horses that are developing well and are on track for early debuts start to join the stable. This year, our stable has 18 2yo horses preparing for their debuts. Watching these horses grow stronger little by little makes me very excited for the future.
Visited Strawberry Hill Stud
Tuesday September 19th, 2023 General
We recently visited John Singleton’s Strawberry Hill Stud. John is one of Australia’s most successful entrepreneurs and also he is the part owner of Magic Millions Sales. At the age of 82, he decided to sell his own farm and 18 broodmares and foals, making headlines with a total price of 100 million dollars. I was amazed by the quality of the top Australian horses being offered for sale, especially the maturity of the 2yo. Their pedigrees, development techniques, and nutrition are all top-notch, and seeing horses that look like older than actual their age at this time of the year reaffirmed the goals for our stable. The facilities on …
