Following their recent trip to Glen Innes, the Japanoz stable travelled to Toowoomba Racecourse in search of a firmer track. This time, they brought two runners — Kaytee Wisdom and Bright the Sun.
Located approximately 300km from Ballina, Toowoomba is a four-hour float trip inland. Situated in the highlands at 700 metres above sea level, the racecourse is known for its undulating terrain, and its Saturday night meetings have become a trademark of the venue.
Apprentice jockey Leah Martyn, taking advantage of a 3kg claim, was booked for Kaytee Wisdom, while veteran local rider Nozi Tomizawa took the reins on Bright the Sun. While Toowoomba typically sees low rainfall, race day brought an unexpected downpour, and the track was officially rated heavy. Unfortunately, both horses struggled to handle the combination of the testing uphill course and wet ground, failing to deliver the results the team had hoped for.
Daiki reflected on the trip, saying,
“With such a unique layout, local horses with track experience had the clear advantage. But for us, being able to learn first-hand how the uphill course plays was a valuable experience. One of the great things about Australian racing is the variety of tracks across regions. Gaining a deep understanding of each course’s characteristics is the first step toward future success.”
