On August 10th, Japanoz Stable sent four runners to Casino Racecourse for Casino Cup Day. Located approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes inland from Ballina Racecourse, Casino is a region known for its cattle farming. The Casino Cup, which is the second most significant race after the Beef Week Cup held in May, drew a large crowd this year. Although we didn’t have a runner in the main event, the day was lively and well-attended.

Casino Racecourse is unique among country tracks, featuring a straight stretch of over 400 meters and a finishing hill reminiscent of Nakayama Racecourse. As such, it is known as a course where back markers can be effective. However, drawing an outside barrier and failing to get inside cover can lead to early stamina depletion, especially when climbing the final hill.

All four of our runners drew outside barriers, and given the challenging circumstances, we devised strategies accordingly. Both Haydens Request and Boy Loves To Run showed great determination to finish in 3rd place. While there’s some frustration over what might have been with a more favorable draw, these two horses gave their all. Kaytee Bold also delivered a strong performance, finishing 5th. Boulanger, ridden by “the new kid on the block” apprentice jockey Caine Stewart, started from the widest 14th barrier. Unable to find cover, he was forced to race wide, preventing him from utilizing his powerful turn of foot and resulting in a 9th place finish.

All four horses ran their hearts out, showing promise for the future. We encourage our co-owners to consider attending on days when regional cup races are held. These events offer a unique atmosphere and a different racing experience, making them well worth the trip.
