God Gumption (3yo gelding by Tassort) secured an impressive maiden victory in a 1000m race at Ballina Racecourse, with a total prize pool of AUD 27,000. After a fair break from the inside barrier, he gradually pushed forward to take the lead, setting his own pace. In the home straight, he held off the challengers, winning by half a length.
This was his debut after one barrier trial, and as a BOBS bonus-qualified horse, he earned an additional AUD 5,625 on top of the winning prize.
Nozi said, “He broke well, so I decided to take the lead. He was hanging out a bit, so I guided him to the inside rail for support. There was a horse on the outside, and I thought we might get beaten, but he showed great determination. He’s still a bit immature, but I believe he’ll only improve from here.”Daiki commented, “He’s shown good speed in training, but he still has a few quirks, such as being a bit slow out of the gates and bit of trouble controlling on the corners. Today’s track favored front-runners over the 1000m, so we were just watching to see how he’d perform. Nozi did a great job managing his quirks and barrier draw, which helped secure the win. I’m also happy we could repay the owner, who has been a long-time supporter, even before Japanoz Stable relocated to Ballina from Murwillumbah.
