True Fairy (4-year-old filly by Real Steel) secured her third career win in a Benchmark 58 race held on June 20th at Coffs Harbour Racecourse (Turf, 1510m, total prize money: AUD 30,000).
She settled patiently toward the rear of the field and remained composed even after turning into the straight, waiting for an opening while still under a tight hold. Once she found a gap along the rail, she responded sharply and outdueled the runner-up in a thrilling finish.
Nori commented:
“Until this race, all the winners had gone wire-to-wire. The pace wasn’t particularly fast, but I took advantage of the good ground on the inside and aimed for a strong finish in the home straight. She’s a tenacious mare, so I deliberately kept her in the pack instead of going wide, making sure she stayed focused all the way to the line. Based on this performance, I think she can handle a step up to 1600 meters. The biggest takeaway today was that she ran strongly all the way to the finish.”

“The strong version of True Fairy is back—congratulations to all involved! The track today clearly favored front-runners, but I didn’t want to change this horse’s racing style. So Nori and I made a strategy: ‘Let’s commit to riding her from behind and focus on a closing run.’ She was a bit slow out of the gate, and with the favorite getting an easy lead in a slow pace, I honestly thought it might be a tough race for us. But thanks to the jockey’s bold decision to take the inside in the stretch, and the horse showing her true ability, we were able to pull off a great win. If she recovers well, we’re considering targeting the Grafton Carnival in July for her next start.”
As a three-year-old, True Fairy recorded two wins and even contested the Group 1 ATC Oaks at Randwick Racecourse. This latest victory marks her first in approximately 15 months.
Congratulations to all connections!
