In early February, Daiki visited Widden Stud in the Hunter Valley region of Australia alongside a Japanese owner. Located about four hours by car from Sydney, the stud spans an impressive 1,100 acres of stunning natural surroundings.

Established in 1867, Widden Stud is one of the most historic and prestigious breeding operations in the world. Over the years, it has produced numerous top-class racehorses, including Northern Meteor. With an annual production of approximately 250 foals, the farm plays a crucial role in Australian racing.

Among the elite stallions standing at Widden is Zoustar, one of the most sought-after sires in Australia. Born in 2010, Zoustar was a Group 1 winner of the Golden Rose Stakes and the Coolmore Stud Stakes. As a sire, he quickly established himself as a leading first- and second-season sire, producing multiple Group 1 winners, including Sunlight.

The stud’s management practices are designed to optimize the development of young horses. Yearlings are turned out in groups of ten, with feed stations positioned on higher ground and water sources at a distance, encouraging natural movement and fitness development.

“Widden Stud is a household name in Australian racing. Seeing Zoustar up close, I was struck by his powerful physique, fluid movement, and undeniable presence. The farm’s meticulously planned environment ensures the highest level of racehorse development,” Daiki commented. With such a well-structured operation, Japanese owners can feel confident entrusting their horses to this world-class breeding facility.
